چکیده
New mixed integer nonlinear optimization models for the Euclidean Steiner tree problem in d-space (with $$d\ge 3$$ ) will be presented this work. All feature a nonsmooth objective function but continuous relaxations of their set feasible solutions are convex. From these models, four convex linear and considered. Each relaxation has same as model from which it is derived. Finally, preliminary computational results highlighting main features discussed.

The Euclidean Steiner Tree Problem
The Euclidean Steiner tree problem is solved by finding the tree with minimal Euclidean length spanning a set of fixed vertices in the plane, while allowing for the addition of auxiliary vertices (Steiner vertices). Steiner trees are widely used to design real-world structures like highways and oil pipelines. Unfortunately, the Euclidean Steiner Tree Problem has shown to be NP-Hard, meaning the...
متن کاملAn Approximation Algorithm for the Euclidean Bottleneck Steiner Tree Problem
Given two sets of points in the plane, P of n terminals and S of m Steiner points, a Steiner tree of P is a tree spanning all points of P and some (or none or all) points of S. A Steiner tree with length of longest edge minimized is called a bottleneck Steiner tree. In this paper, we study the Euclidean bottleneck Steiner tree problem: given two sets, P and S, and a positive integer k ≤ m, find...
متن کاملTwo Heuristics for the Euclidean Steiner Tree Problem
The Euclidean Steiner tree problem is to find the tree with minimal Euclidean length spanning a set of fixed points in the plane, allowing the addition of auxiliary points to the set (Steiner points). The problem is NP-hard, so polynomial-time heuristics are desired. We present two such heuristics, both of which utilize an efficient method for computing a locally optimal tree with a given topol...
متن کاملMixed-Integer Nonlinear Optimization
Many optimal decision problems in scientific, engineering, and public sector applications involve both discrete decisions and nonlinear system dynamics that affect the quality of the final design or plan. These decision problems lead to mixed-integer nonlinear programming (MINLP) problems that combine the combinatorial difficulty of optimizing over discrete variable sets with the challenges of ...
